15-year-old Mankato wakeboarder hit by boat while floating after a fall

A 15-year-old Mankato, Minn. wakeboarder was hit by another boat after falling on East Jefferson Lake on Friday evening. The Le Sueur County sheriff’s office reported Marah Elizabeth Bengston was taken to the hospital with serious injuries to her leg and arm, but the Mayo Clinic confirmed Sunday she is in fair condition.

At about 6:30 p.m., Marah was wakeboarding behind her dad’s boat on the lake in Cleveland Township when she lost her balance and fell into the water. She was floating in the water she was struck by a different boat operated by 20-year-old Richard Jensen of St. Peter.

Bengston was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester and the accident remains under investigation.
