We all know that the odds of winning the lottery are slim to none, and slim is out of town. In fact, the odds that you will take home the big prize in the Powerball lottery is roughly 175 million to one. There is no doubt that you have heard the saying "You have a better chance of being struck by lightning", and its true. The odds of being struck from above is during any one year in the US is 1 in 700,000.

Check out this list of weather related odds that are more in your favor than hitting the Powerball.

ODDS OF DYING FROM A LIGHTNING STRIKE 1 IN 10,000,000

We have learned that being struck from above can happen once for every 700,000 people. However, dying from that strike is much rarer.

THE ODDS OF DYING IN A TORNADO IN THE US 1 IN 4,500,000

This is all based on averages but you can expect your odds to go up in the southern plains and go down in states like Alaska or Hawaii. This means you're 40 times more likely to get hit by a strong tornado than win the lottery. As a side note, a tornado has been reported in all 50 states.

ODDS OF FREEZING TO DEATH 1 IN 3,000,000

This is a serious subject here in the Upper Midwest where temps are often brutal. However, most hypothermia cases occur in warmer climates as your are technically declared hypothermic when your body temperature dips below 95°.

ODDS OF DYING IN AN EARTHQUAKE LIVING IN CALIFORNIA 1 IN 2,000,000

The earth doesn't shake much here in the Upper Midwest but keep in mind that the largest earthquake in US history occurred on the New Madrid fault located in southern Missouri.

ODDS OF DYING IN A TSUNAMI ALONG THE US COAST 1 IN 500,000

This is not much of a worry for us here in the upper Midwest but who knows; a meteor could hit Lake Mille Lacs and cause quite the splash.

ODDS OF BEING HIT BY A METEOR 1 IN 500,000

The odds of being struck from space are better than being hit by lightning. However, keep in mind that 1,200 people injured by a meteor strike in Russia sort of skewed those numbers.

ODDS OF DYING IN A FLOOD 1 IN 175,000

Once again this is an average number taking into account worldwide catastrophes such as cyclones and monsoons.

ODDS OF DYING IN A VOLCANIC ERUPTION 1 IN 80,000

You may think that dying from Mother Nature blowing her top is slim but one of the biggest possible eruptions is Yellowstone Park. Also, don't forget about Mount Saint Helens in Washington State.

ODDS OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS IN MIAMI 1 IN 12,000 YEARS

It actually did once snow in Miami back on January 19, 1977, but it didn't stick. Now try to get that to happen on Christmas. The odds are high but with global warming, who knows what the future holds.

The list does not stop there when it comes to longshots. Check out the list below which gives better odds than the lottery.
