N. Wis. sheriff credits Facebook with suspected felon's arrest

The Washburn County Sheriff's Office credits Facebook in helping locate a man suspected of felony assault, now, they're using the social media site to further the investigation.

On Saturday morning, police were looking for Terry Kiefer, a 36-year-old man wanted for felony assault in the Minong, Wis. area. Kiefer fled the scene, apparently drunk, with his 8- and 10-year-old children in the car.

"FACE BOOK land does it again. Thanks for all your help," the next post from Sheriff Dryden said.

Kiefer and another man were apparently in a fight, the other man transported to the hospital after Kiefer had fled. Shots were fired but no one was hit. Within minutes of Sheriff Dryden's Facebook post, dispatch received a call from two people who said Kiefer was at the Victory Lane gas station in the Village of Minong. Police said the callers had seen the post.

Kiefer was booked into Washburn County Jail on felony reckless endangerment of safety by use of a firearm, felony attempted second-degree homicide, possession of a firearm by a felon, felony battery, felony operating while intoxicated with children under the age of 16, domestic abuse and potentially child abuse.

Sheriff Dryden is now taking to Facebook again as the investigation ensues.

I am asking FB for some more help. Wondering if anyone out there knows anything about Terry Kiefer stopping at a residence after he left the scene this morning, somewhere between the hours of 3 AM to 10 AM. We have information that he stopped at another home prior to his arrest this morning.

If you do please call 715-468-4720 or our TIP line 715-468-2720.

We would rather have the people, from the residence in question, call us before we find them, this way we can possibly avoid criminal charges against anyone who may have aided a person who has committed a crime, or otherwise interfered with a criminal investigation or inadvertently becoming a party to a crime.

Anyone having any information that may shed light on Kiefer's where a bouts during those hours in questions, please call us.

Thanks again.

Sheriff Dryden
