Patrick Henry High School closes after fire breaks out in chemistry lab

Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis is closed today, March 19, after a fire broke out in a chemistry lab overnight around 2 a.m.

The Minneapolis Fire Department is responding to the incident and investigating the cause, which is unknown at this time. The entire school had to be ventilated due to the chemical odor. 

All students and staff are luckily safe and no injuries have been reported.

The closure affects all Patrick Henry High School events including Community Education classes, athletics events and all extracurricular activities. All staff at the school are being told not report to work.

The school said staff and students are encouraged to participate in classroom-related discussions and online coursework as much as possible, and to visit the Patrick Henry website for updates http://henry.mpls.k12.mn.us. 

All other Minneapolis Public Schools will remain open. It is unclear at this time whether the school will remain closed tomorrow.
